We are delighted to announce that our school has been awarded their very first Amber Flag award. This award is presented to schools who make a conscious effort to promote and improve the well-being and mental health of their school community.
Our student council worked hard throughout the year to make positive changes and to coordinate events to promote positive mental health and well-being in our school. Here are some of the fantastic ideas they came up with:
Emotions Chart: The Student Council designed and created an emotions chart for each class that has encouraged each child in our school to indicate how they are feeling based on four zones of regulation. These charts will give children the opportunity to think about how they feel, and to communicate those feelings to their teachers and classmates in the classroom.
Mental Health Awareness Day: On the 17th of January 2022, our school celebrated ‘Yellow Monday’. On this day, each child was invited to wear the colour yellow (or any other colour that makes them happy) to spread positivity and joy throughout our school community. Each class enjoyed dancing, games, colouring and hula hooping on our school patio!
Family Picnic: On the 12th of May 2022, our school invited parents and siblings to join us for a Family Picnic on the grounds of our school. Families enjoyed baked goods made by the children while getting to know other members of the school community. Parents, teachers and students made donations to Pieta house which were collected by the Amber Flag team.
The student council would like to thank all the students, teachers and parents for all their help in our mission to gain our first Amber flag for DSP. Also, a big thank you to Pieta House for recognising all our hard work and for all the hard work they do to help people who need their support!
