6th class – Session 3 – swings, knife work, cooking and visitors

March 14th 2025

We continued with playing games that we can teach the younger children. Today it was bat and moth. We noticed that some children prefer to be the bat with a blindfold and trying to catch the moth with ‘echolocation’ and others prefer to be the moth who is chased. We also practiced Eagle Eye and other games.

We noticed the leaves on the horse chestnut beginning to burst and the leaflets starting to droop down.

We put up swings and hammocks and shelters. We’re really developing these skills.

We did some whittling of tent pegs with knives. When they are trusted with tools, as well as bolstering their self-confidence they also develop motor skills, concentration and understanding of the material world.

Whittling a tent peg

One group did some cooking with wild foraged three cornered leeks.

Another group came visiting remembering and reconnecting with different basecamps they’d had previously. They wanted to go on the swing, climb favourite trees and play Eagle Eye together.
